Our Rule

Those who are accepted into the life of the Order of Lutheran Franciscans commit to the General Rule, a modern interpretation of the 1223 Rule of St. Francis.  According to the General Rule, the sisters and brothers of this Order:

  • Are active members of Lutheran (ELCA) congregations;
  • Make vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience, as interpreted by the Order;
  • Pray the Daily Office;
  • Receive Holy Communion weekly;
  • Have a spiritual director or faith coach;
  • Make individual confession at least twice a year;
  • Attend Chapter and regional convocations whenever possible; and
  • Financially support the mission and work of the Order and the Church.

Ecumenical in spirit, the OLF  works with other Franciscans whenever possible towards the rebuilding of Christ's Church, justice for the poor, and care of creation.
